Hey, can you help me? I have no cold water!

That is what a new client asked me on the phone on Friday afternoon.

I will give you a little background. Her house is almost 20 years old. The problem started about 4 years ago and has been on going.

When she turns on the cold water faucets in her house she gets hot water for almost 1 minute and then it will cool down, never getting cold.

She told me that the original builder along with the plumber who did the original plumbing had been out and could not figure out the problem. It was suggested that they call me the local Pasadena Area Plumber

Today, I went to check it out. What I found, was that the house had a very common brand single control shower valve that we letting the hot water travel into the cold side water lines. The added pressure from the water heating, (hot water like hot air builds pressure), plus the fact that they had a hot water recirculation system was causing the problem.

I rebuilt 4 faucets for them and and the problem has gone away.

You would have thought that any plumber would have know how to figure this out. Not so. Just because he has a license does not make him a good plumber or good at diagnosing problems. Only lots of schooling, training and experience will allow him to properly diagnose difficult plumbing problems like this. Nexstar Network Contractors usually have the necessary training.

Can you believe it. She lived with a problem for 4 years that I was able to fix in a couple of hours.

Hope I helped you out with some free plumbing advice. If you are handy give it a try.
